The Addis International Festival kicked off on Saturday June 07, 2014 at the Italian Cultural institute and will stay on until June 11th 2014.
The opening session was attended by Amin Abdulkadir, Ministry of culture and tourism and Guiseppe Mistretta, Italian Ambassador to Ethiopia.
The screening of the first two films of the festival were shown opening day ; “ Jeans and Marto”, a film made by Claudia Palazzi and Clio Sozzani, a story of a young Ethiopian pastoralist who escapes his arranged marriage to fulfill his dream. It reviles the complexity of Ethiopia in the new millennium caught between modernity and tradition.
The second film screened was “ Sister” a film by Brenda Davis. The film tells the story behind the statistics and exposes the global crisis of maternal and new born mortality.
