The 15th Edition race takes place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Sunday 22nd November 2015.The red, gold and green color t-shits of the happiest participants floods the streets of Addis, Face paints, masks, dancing, music, singing and much of dancing going on, here comes the most exciting and biggest road race in Africa!
With more than 37,000 participants, 500 elite runners and several hundred runners from overseas it is THE EVENT of the year and everyone wants to be a part of it. The hardest race in actual fact is the race to go buy your T-shirt before it runs out, and it does run out oh so quickly.
Founded by the legendary and loved Ethiopian Athlete, corporate businessman and an idol for many, Haile Gebreselassie, the Great Ethiopian Run is an event management company operating in Ethiopia since 2001 staging mass-participation athletic competitions in Ethiopia.
This reminds us his announcement that he has decided to bring to an end a 25-year career in which the 45 year old, legendary, Haile Gebreselassie, who throughout his career he has claimed two Olympic gold medals, eight World Championship victories and set 27 world records still remaining the world record holder at 20,000m and the one-hour race.
He has mentored many, he has made us scream and jump up and down frantically every time he crossed the finish line in victory setting records all over the world. Our national flag has risen and the anthem has been echoing throught nations across the globe in the name of victory, great sportsmanship and great honor, and we thank him for that.
The 15th Edition of the Great Ethiopian Run will commence and end at 9:00am (3se’at local time) - 11:30am ( 5tekul Local time) respectively.
In connection with the 2015 Great Ethiopian Run International 10km Race, the annual official fundraising campaign, united under the “Running for a Cause” banner, sets a target to raise 1.4 million birr for social protection and welfare programs run by selected Ethiopian organizations. Great Ethiopian Run and UN Ethiopia use the excitement of the annual 10km International event to raise more funds each year to benefit local charities. Ministry of Women, Children and Youth Affairs supports the campaign by selecting the beneficiary organizations.
The following four organizations are the selected beneficiaries this year are Ryan Autism Center, Mathewos Wondu,YeEthiopian Cancer Society, Ethiopian National Association for Mentally Disabled, and Amhara Region Women, Children & Youth Affairs Office
How Can You Help? Even if you are not running?
Organizations can get their organizations to donate for our charity campaign, and we will publicize your organization's support on Capital News Paper and as for Individuals, individual participants raise funds by taking sponsorship forms from our office and collecting pledge from friends and family members. You can raise money individually even if you are not running.
